Our Story
In 2012, our family opened a franchise from a nationally known restaurant in St. Petersburg, Florida. While most of the dishes prepared with the franchise’s recipes were great, their recipe for fried chicken needed a little work. My husband started experimenting with different combinations of spices to try to improve the taste. After much trial and error, we prepared a batch of chicken with the new seasoning and asked the head chef to taste it to see if he thought it was good. Much to our amazement, he smiled and said “Good? This is perfect!”.
After that, we tried the seasoning on a variety of other dishes and pretty soon we replaced the franchise seasoning with the new blend. We did not have a name for it, so we began calling it the “House Seasoning”. Over the next few years it became our family seasoning and was prepared for loved ones and friends to be given for special occasions. Eventually it outlasted both the head chef and even the restaurant.
It stayed within the family until one of my son-in-laws suggested that we market the seasoning to the public. I was initially resistant but eventually we came around to the idea. Then, just prior to making the decision to publicly market the seasoning, my husband’s oldest and most beloved sister, Mozelle, passed away. Mozelle was renowned as a great cook and had prepared many great southern dishes over her life. So we decided to name our seasoning after her to honor her life and to commemorate her great cooking prowess.
So from our family to yours we hope you enjoy Mozelle's Southern Seasoning.
